CPI stands for Certified Professional Inspector and is a United States Federal Certification Mark & Credential from InterNACHI, the world’s largest nonprofit association of residential and commercial property inspectors. InterNACHI provides its members with accredited training and education, free benefits, expert advice, and peer support—all to help them serve their homeowner-clients by providing them with the highest-quality inspections for their largest investments.

In order for an inspector to attain the Certified Professional Inspector (CPI)® credential they have to pass an online inspector exam, be a member of InterNACHI, complete an online code of ethics course and a standards of practice course, submit 4 mock inspection reports, and sign the enrollment agreement.

After the initial steps to attain the certification each inspector must pass 12 additional online courses within 12 months, and pass the InterNACHI Online Inspector Exam every 3 years with a score of 80% or better.

Inspectors that are members of InterNACHI are required to stay up to date with the industry’s most rigorous online Continuing Education and video training courses, which have been awarded hundreds of approvals and accreditations by state and governmental agencies.  They also adhere to a comprehensive Standards of Practice, abide by a strict Code of Ethics, which puts their clients first; and use state-of-the-art inspection tools and reporting software so that their clients can make informed decisions about the homes they want to buy or sell.

Purchasing a home is probably the largest purchase someone will ever make, so it is important to understand the condition of the investment. Having a Home Inspection completed by a CPI Home Inspector will significantly reduce your anxiety by arming you with the knowledge you need to make an informed home-buying decision by someone that is abiding to that higher code of ethics and is keeping up with their education and the industry.
